Our professional, university-educated teachers encourage students to develop a love of learning and a desire to succeed. They maintain the highest integrity and concern for your child’s wellbeing.

The principal is responsible for the educational leadership and management of our school. If you would like to speak to the principal, please contact us to make an appointment.

Principal

Mr Matt Quirk, Principal.

Mr Matt Quirk

Mr Quirk commenced working with NSW Education in 2003, and has worked extensively in a variety of schools in Orange and Lithgow areas. He promotes positive, respectful relationships with all members of the community to build trust and establish a positive school culture. He believes in personalised learning that supports a wide range of students with additional learning and support needs.

Mr Quirk was Head Teacher of a large support faculty for 7 years, and Deputy Principal of a comprehensive high school for 5 years. He has also worked as part of the Teacher Quality Unit in Sydney. He commenced work at Portland Central School in 2020 as Principal (Relieving), before he gained the role permanently in 2022.

Mrs Leigh Mclean.

Mrs Leigh Mclean

Mrs Mclean began teaching at Portland Central School in 2007. She has worked in various roles across the K-12 setting over her time and is committed to supporting all students to reach their individual goals. 

As deputy principal, Mrs Mclean supports the principal in the educational leadership of the school, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment for both students and staff.

Mrs Mclean looks after all teaching, learning and wellbeing matters in the Secondary campus, as well as teaching agriculture, food technology, primary industries and hospitality.

Mrs Jess Worley

Jess Worley has worked at Portland Central School since 2016. She is our Head Teacher – Secondary Studies, Careers Advisor, and teaches Human Society and its Environment (HSIE).

Jess believes that one of the most important things you can do as a teacher is prepare kids for the real world and life after school, and getting them work ready is a great way of doing this.

Ms Rosie Galloway

Rosie Galloway has been teaching at Portland Central School since 2021. She is the Head Teacher for Stage 5 and Head Teacher – Strategic Support. She also teaches Stage 4 PE.

Rosie looks after Literacy and Numeracy in Secondary, as well as students' individualised learning plans. Rosie has a passion for supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to connect with their culture and to aspire to achieve their best.

Miss Kelly Gurney

Kelly Gurney began teaching at Portland Central School in 2023. She has been employed by the Department of Education for 22 years, after completing a Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) at Charles Sturt University in 2001.

Kelly is passionate about public education and believes that all students can learn and grow given the right support. She has high expectations and encourages all students to strive for success.

In addition to her role as Assistant Principal, Kelly teaches Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2), and is responsible for supervising K-2 staff.
