Non-Attendance Interview program (NIPS)
This term Portland Central School will be involved in an attendance initiative known as NIPS. The program will be run by a team of Home School Liaison Officers, an Aboriginal School Liaison Officer and school staff.
The objective of NIPS is to reduce the number of unjustified absences by talking with students and raising awareness at school and home of the importance of regular attendance.
Students with attendance issues will be individually interviewed by this team to discuss any barriers to regular attendance. It will provide an opportunity for students to highlight any problems with their attendance (e.g. relationships, bullying, curriculum or health problems) and the school will then have an opportunity to address these issues.
If your child is interviewed, you will receive a letter outlining the process which was followed, including your child’s attendance information.
If you have any queries about NIPS, please contact Leigh Mclean on (02) 63 555 233.
